Diabetes and nutrition were the featured topics for the second Take Charge of Your Health workshop held on Saturday, April 8, 2006 at Wausau Aspirus Hospital. This workshop was co-sponsored by the Wausau Area Hmong Mutual Association, Aspirus, and the American Red Cross Marathon County Chapter. It began at 9:00 am with registration, blood pressure and breakfast. 44 Hmong attended, along with 12 staff and volunteers
Dr. David Jenkins of UW Health Wausau Family Medicine spoke on diabetes,
interpreted by Khoua Xiong , Lead Interpreter for Aspirus. Leeann Vue from Bridge Community Health Clinic/ Northern Wisconsin Area Health Education Center spoke on nutrition. Both responded to audience questions.
The American Red Cross provided blood pressure and glucose screening. Students from the Wausau area DPI Early Intervention program helped with registrtion and were available for child care. Transportation and staffing was provided by the Wausau Area Hmong Mutual Association.
